Epic trip part II
I never finished the second part of my Epic Trip journal entry...so for the sake of my OCD I will finish it now. Let's see what this feeble old mind can remember...
I left off in Las Vegas. I didn't win the 5 grand, but I did win 30 bucks! The highlight of my trip was, you could debate, Friday night. Jewels took me to see "O" a cirque du soleil production! The stage was truly magnificent. "O" is Cirque's first and only aquatic show, which features underwater acts such as synchronized swimming as well as above-ground acts. In order for the platform stage to rise and fall without a wake, the surface of the stage has thousands of tiny holes." I cannot begin to describe the beauty which a moving platform water stage can create. The illusion of people walking on water, disappearing, dissolving, etc etc. Jewels was so sweet to take me to this awesome show. We also had a lot of fun after the show even though poor Julianne was exhausted from work. The next night Juli, Jason, and I went to Bite of Las Vegas and saw a bit of Blue October. Good times. The next day we all went for a small hike on this beautiful mountain. There was a beautiful sunset that day. Lastly we went to a buffet on the stripe and Jewels bought me a bunch of delicious cupcakes. We also went dancing, which after Juli said she wished I was always around, it would be handy to have a girlfriend to go dance with. I miss having Juli Megan and I live in the same state. Maybe someday that will happen again.
Next I went to LA to visit Rollie and Brandon. The night I arrived there was an artist performing on this awesome instrument he made out of drums and tons of horns. Everyone was into it, I was into it. The following day was spent at Santa Monica pier, running around with Brandon and Rollie, and ending up on The Hawk Show.
http://thehawkshow.tv/ But we were on the couch came on the late night show, which isn't recorded. Thursday night was rather unexpected. Rollie and I were the roaming photographers at this crazy expensive LA Halloween party. It was mainly the creator of CSI's wife's party. I had fun, I hope Rollie did too. Brandon and I watched 5000 fingers of Dr. T and the following night I was The Big Lebowski for the first time. Hilarious. Rollie and I did a small shoot of me in a chair. I hope he actually makes those Lith prints someday. That weekend the Brewery (the artist complex where they live) was having its artwalk, so I spent most of the weekend wandering around experiencing that. It made me miss art school. Being surrounded by artists is a curse and a blessing. Other highlight include a little bit of dancing with Rolls and Brandon, and horseback riding! Rollie actually took me horseback riding. Even though our horses were kind of brats, and we had to follow a guide, it was pretty fun.
Fort Collins Colorado. Last Stop. David Death was kind enough to show me around his hometown. It was fun experiencing Fort Collins for a couple reasons. A lot of people migrate between Portland and FC, so it was fun to see the flip side of that. Also, it was cool to see where David came from and to have a visual for stories I had heard. Most of my time in Colorado was spent in coffee shops. I had no idea, but the only thing people do on the regular in Fort Collins is hang out in coffee shops. I can see the appeal, but I think I would go out of my mind if I lived there. David does very well with not letting the small town mentality get to him. Basho told me "Ft. Collins is an epitomal small town vortex full of nice people who should've moved elsewhere decades ago." Hahahaha, that made me laugh when I read it. During the week Dave and I saw It Might Get Loud, wandered around, talked a lot, did some darkroom, etc.
That weekend Dave threw his first real party which I kind of Co-Hosted but not really. It was a fun get together, I was happy for him. Jacob in his milkshake costume was the most entertaining part for me. It was kind of torture watching David and his Ex-girlfriend flirt most of the night. However, hanging out with Aaron and Lisa that weekend made up for it. On Halloween David and I decided to be a Christian Tract. I was Justice and he was a lying thieving adulterous blasphemer. We met up with Lisa and Aaron and went to the Devotchka show, which was relatively fun. That night we stayed at Lisa and Aaron's cabin. They live in an old mining town, so cool. The next day they took us on a hike to see the old mine remnants. It was great hanging out with those two. They are so funny, fun, and intelligent. And people with good hearts, gotta love it. We became instant friends, which was much needed since David was way sick of me by that point. Since he was sick of me, I then in turn became sick of him and being in Colorado. But it wasn't that bad, I just stayed a little too long. The next day was spent eating Mexican food and bowling. David practically paid for me whenever we went out, which was so nice of him. And sent me mixed signals at first, but then the real signals came in loud and clear. I always kind of thought David and I were meant for each other, but now I realize how wrong we probably are for each other...which is ok. What little romance we had is a thing of the past. But no worries, Dave is great, just not for me.
After Colorado, I was happy to come home. I've been home for almost two months and am ready to do something again. Something big.
